may choose a variety of services and supports in addition to employment. The principles of Person-Centered Planning are utilized whereby the
individuals choose options in which they are interested.
These may include:
Health & Leisure Activities
The Arc supports individuals in community activities as dining out, using the library, mall-walking for exercise and learning community-based skills relevant to each individual's interest. This may occur during the week or on weekends.
Functional Activities
At the Arc facilities participants are offered meaningful and functional activities that are non-paying and not directly related to work. Based on the individuals' preferences, these activities include developing one's skills in the arts, hobbies, etc.
Volunteerism
The Arc provides support for individuals to take part in volunteer work (libraries, hospitals, nursing homes, etc.). These activities are designed around a person's interests, needs and goals. Volunteerism
should lead to greater involvement and satisfaction in participating in important community places and activities and may lead the individual to consider paid employment. These activities could be in the
form of individual or small group assignments, and may occur during the week or on weekends.
The Individual Options Department supports individual choices and works with the participants and their families or guardians in achieving their goals.
The services and supports described above are also offered at our Westbank location in Westwego, Louisiana.

By providing personal, on-going care, PCA services may delay or prevent the necessity of institutionalization. PCA Services also provide an opportunity for the participant to engage in social or leisure activities outside of the home.
PCA staff are carefully chosen and specially trained to care for, and about, persons with disabilities. The family and/or the person with the disability is always involved.
Family members may meet with the PCA staff before service begins, and the family may recommend persons who are willling to serve as a Personal Care Assistant.
Supported Living Services assist adults to improve skills in many areas such as decision making, money managment, daily living skills, being active in the community, mobility, etc. Basic suppports are provided to meet the needs of the individual. The person lives in their own home or apartment and has the responsibility of living expenses. This means services and supports can change without the person changing where they live.
To assure that the person is living in a safe environment and receiving the support they need, regular contact with Project H.E.L.P. staff at least three times per week is made. Thenumber of hours spent with Project H.E.L.P. staff is adjusted to match the person's needs. Emergency access to Project H.E.L.P. staff is available on a 24 hour basis. Families, friends, neighbors and staff work together to be a part of a lifestyle chosen by the individual.
